Refuse & Recycling Driver

Our client is the largest single employer in Derby City. They are looking to recruit six experienced Refuse Drivers to work in their Street Pride team on a temporary basis for a minimum 3-6 months collecting waste from households and business in the Derby City area and maintain high service standards.

To be successful for this role you would ideally need experience in managing refuse collections operations, although inductions and training is offered in order that you can control refuse vehicles and associated equipment safely.

The role involves the driving of allocated waste collection vehicles for the purpose of refuse and recycling collection, associated loading activities and the supervision of crew members to support the Council's waste management operation.

You will drive and be responsible for your allocated vehicle, including its security, and you will control and supervise the collection of waste and the subsequent tipping at specified locations. Prior to leaving the depot, you will be responsible for checking that the vehicle is roadworthy by undertaking a Daily Vehicle Maintenance Check and for reporting any defects to the Supervisor in accordance with Council procedure.

 

You must hold a HGV Class C licence and have previous HGV driving experience preferably in the waste industry and a valid CPC card.

You should also have a sound understanding of the health and safety implications of driving a refuse vehicle, combined with excellent customer care and communication skills.

Be able to provide the Right to Work documents and references for at minimum 2 years.

Hours will be 37 hours per week, Tuesday – Friday 05.45 starts.
