Estimator

JT Recruit are currently looking an experienced estimator on behalf of our client in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Due to the business expanding they are looking for an experienced Estimator within the cladding industry. The applicant must have at least 5 years’ experience. Our client deals with design and new builds along with refurbishments and maintenance works.

The successful candidate will be part of a small team. You will be responsible for estimating work for various projects, mainly for metal roof and walls, rainscreen and single ply roofing systems. You will be required to gather proposals, drawings, specifications and all related documents from the client and manufacturers. Estimating labour, materials, and time requirements to be able to complete the overall cost of the projects, this will be carried out in excel format and submitted mainly via a bill of quantities quoting systems or our inhouse quoting system.

This means you may be involved from the project start to the completion of construction if required, as well as being required to react quickly to any amendments or changes in specifications/design with updated costings and feasibility reviews.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Negotiating and winning tenders.
  • Preparing tender bids and collating information from enquires received and submitted in line with deadlines.
  • Developing strong working relationships with clients
  • Securing good working relationships with our suppliers.
  • Preparing accurate take offs from drawings.
  • Negotiating prices from suppliers as well as sub-contractors, netters, scaffolders etc.
  • Prepare handover documents for the Contracts Manager and installation team.
  • Keep all records and database up to date and keep accurate records and answer RFI’s
  • Attending design / planning / progress meetings with the clients and inhouse.
  • Once securing the projects, they will be actively involved in the procurement of materials and negotiating the most competitive prices with our suppliers.
  • Overseeing pre-construction within the company.
  • Attend handover meetings with surveyors, design and management for projects that have been secured.
  • Populate client bill of quantities and pricing schedules.
  • Calculate final figures for the estimated cost, adjustment for over heads and profit.
  • Ensure all bids are discussed with the Contracts Manager before they are submitted to the client.
  • Able to understand and analyse Architect’s drawings/specifications.
  • Capable of advising the client on value engineered options for cost/performance purposes.
  • Form a close working relationship with the Managing Director, Contracts Manager, Site Supervisor and Health and Safety team.
  • To have a high level of understanding for health and safety and current regulations.
  • To read through any contractual requirements and make them known to the Contracts Manager.
  • To be able to create programme of works.
  • Eliminate the risk of financial surprises.

Experience:

  • Strong background in estimating, (minimum 5 years), along with the following:
  • Experience in preparing tenders and take offs from construction drawings and an expert in interpreting drawings.
  • Experience in cladding, built up, seam systems and single ply is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and able to build relationships.
  • Excellent IT and computer skills including Microsoft Office and excel.
  • Good professional telephone skills with smart appearance.
  • Ideally the candidate will hold a relevant qualification for this role.

  • Good leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a small team and under your own initiative when required.
  • Well organised with excellent time management.
  • Ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously, (this is a must).
  • Full UK driver’s license and vehicle needed to attend occasional meetings etc. fuel will be reimbursed.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good team player.
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision making.
