Test Technician

Our client is looking for a vibrant, happy, driven and ambitious 'Test Technician ' looking for their next big step working for a spectacular American blue-chip company based from their  company based in Derby to work on a full-time and possibly leading permanent basis.

The successful candidate will be part of the UK NDT/Materials Testing team. The company has a network of more than 1,000 laboratories and offices and over 43,000 people in more than 100 countries that delivers innovative and bespoke Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification solutions for our customers’ operations and supply chains.

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will need to be able to work a 2  shift rota Monday to Friday.


The industries that the candidate will be working with are aerospace, rail, transport, oil and gas, power generation, both nuclear and conventional, submarine, foundries, fabrication and construction. They will also have a background in non-destructive testing.


Main duties associated with the role:

• Routine testing of metals including: room temperature tensile testing; elevated temperature tensile testing; charpy impact testing; hardness testing (Vickers, Brinell & Rockwell) and weld testing (Macro, bend, fracture etc).

• Liaise with Clients & other departments to ensure that laboratory testing commitments are met.

• Adhere to quality procedures/Standard Operating Procedures/customer requirements

• Ensure the calibration and maintenance schedules of laboratory equipment are adhered to.

• Conduct calibrations and periodic tests in a timely manner.

• Undertake, organize and agree training in order to achieve and maintain competency level.

• Maintain safe working practices within the laboratory.

• Participate in continuous improvement activities as required.

• When required carry out/participate in internal, external and customer audits.

• Assist in the preparation of quality procedures as necessary.

• Deputise for the senior laboratory technician as required.

• Any other duty assigned by the laboratory manager commensurate with the position.


Qualifications and experience Required:

• HND in Mechanical Engineering is desirable

• A Level in Science; Maths or Mechanical Engineering is essential

• Experience of UKAS desirable

• Mechanical test lab experience is desirable

• Good communication skills both verbal and written

• Ability to work as part of a team and also on your own initiative

• Good eye for detail

• Ability to follow procedures
