Salary: £20.48 per hour

Type: Full-time, 07.45 – 15.45hrs| Temporary Contract

Becky at JT Recruit is looking to appoint an experienced Highway Works Manager to take the reins of a dynamic frontline operational team, overseeing the daily delivery of vital highway maintenance and capital works.

This is more than just a management role – it’s a chance to shape infrastructure, inspire teams, and implement innovative solutions that keeps Derby’s community moving.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Leading a skilled team of operatives, gangers, and apprentices – plus managing contractors and agency staff.
• Allocating vehicles, equipment, and resources each day to deliver both planned and emergency works.
• Ensuring all works meet high standards of safety, compliance, and quality.
• Quoting and costing schemes using pricing matrices to help clients make smart, timely decisions.
• Managing standby rotas and supervising out-of-hours operations including winter maintenance.
• Using specialist asset systems and digital tools to distribute work and track progress.
• Driving innovation in materials, methods, and delivery to boost productivity and value.

What You’ll Bring:

• Proven leadership experience in highways or a similar operational setting.
• Strong knowledge of highway legislation, health and safety, and asset management principles.
• Confidence in working independently on-site and in engaging with senior stakeholders.
• A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to handle performance and productivity challenges.
• IT literacy, including use of MS Office and asset management platforms.
